Asthma

Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood. Center research has focused on understanding disparities in asthma  and improving adherence to needed medications. Specific studies include:

  • The Population-Based Effectiveness in Asthma and Lung Diseases (PEAL) Network, a six-center collaborative that conducts comparative effectiveness and aherence research. The network is designed to support future work in pharmacogenetics and delivery science.
  • The Asthma in Families Facing Out-of-pocket Requirements with Deductibles (AFFORD) project, a PCORI-funded study that is evaluating the impact of high-deductible health plans and preventive drug lists on medication use and clinical outcomes for adults and children with asthma
  • The Asthma CHECC (Clinics Helping Expand Cost Conversations) study, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded project that tested a cost navigation intervention to engage asthma educators and other specialty care team members in leading cost conversations in a large asthma specialty clinic serving a diverse population of pediatric patients. The project included development of an educational video for families to promote cost conversations. To watch the video click here!
