Providers’ Concerns about Behavior Change Don’t Justify Withholding HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis

Boston, MA – Preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV is an antiretroviral pill that is over 90% effective in preventing HIV acquisition when taken as prescribed. A new Perspective, published in the February 7 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, examines clinicians’ concerns and biases toward prescribing PrEP and suggests strategies to mitigate those biases.
