Prevention and Treatment Strategies
Our faculty are leading investigators in the CDC Prevention Epicenters Program, pioneering innovative strategies to prevent infections that lead to sepsis in hospitalized patients (see Harvard Prevention Epicenter page for details). Additionally, we conduct rigorous evaluations and comparative effectiveness research on sepsis treatment strategies using comprehensive EHR datasets and interventional studies leveraging EHR-based decision support tools. Examples include:
- Assessing the association between sequence of antibiotic administration and mortality in sepsis
- Testing the impact of electronic alerts to increase the rate of blood culture collection before intravenous antibiotic administration and improve the timeliness of second dose antibiotics in patients with sepsis
